Michael Duran is a bilingual native New Mexican. Both he and his wife have strong ties to northern New Mexico where their families originate and can be traced back for several generations.
Michael was raised in the South Broadway Neighborhood of Albuquerque, New Mexico and graduated from Albuquerque High School. He has a Bachelor's Degree in Management and Information Systems and received his law degree from the University of New Mexico School of Law where he was on the Dean's list.
While in law school, his mother was diagnosed with brain cancer and passed away. A missed diagnosis during her care fortified Michael’s resolve to help those unjustly injured by the negligence of others. As a result, he has specialized in personal injury and civil litigation for several years and remains committed to helping injured clients.
"Family is important to me. Nothing is more satisfying than helping a family move forward after a life-changing event caused by negligence."
Michael has jury trial experience throughout the State of New Mexico, in both State and Federal Court. Of the many clients he has helped and notable cases he has handled, these exemplify his commitment:
- Michael helped a severely injured client and his family, which included four special needs children, obtain a seven-figure recovery. Additionally, this case involved an intersection which was improperly maintained and had several near fatal accidents before this family’s tragic collision. As a result of the lawsuit filed, a traffic light was installed making the intersection safer for other families and drivers.
- Michael represented an off-duty police officer who was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash. The crash was due in part to median landscaping which hindered the view of vehicles turning at the median. He helped the family secure a six-figure recovery. Equally important, the case also prompted the homeowners’s association to maintain the medians in such a way as to provide unobstructed visibility making the neighborhood safer.
Michael is an active member of the National Hispanic Bar Association, the New Mexico Hispanic Bar Association, The New Mexico Trial Lawyers Association and the National Trial Lawyers Organization. Michael also serves on the Board of Directors of The New Mexico Trial Lawyers Association.
Michael and his wife Laura are blessed with a blended family of six adult children, their spouses and grandchildren. When not in court or trial, Michael enjoys hunting, fishing, golf, cooking/eating and traveling whenever possible.
