Distracted Driving Causes Multiple Accidents On Lloyd Expressway

Distracted driving was the cause of an eight-vehicle accident on the Lloyd Expressway (Indiana 66) in Evansville, Indiana this week.

Evansville Police say that the multiple-vehicle accident could have been avoided if drivers had kept their eyes on the road instead of on the roadside assistance that was taking place on the shoulder. According to reports, a woman was receiving help with a spare time from a police officer with his light flashing – a scene that caused three separate accidents from vehicles passing by.

Rubbernecking at car accident scenes and other roadside incidents is one of the most common types of driver distractions – it is common for fender-benders or worse to occur at the scene of another car accident. For safety reasons, it is vital for drivers to keep concentrated on the task of driving even when passing accidents and disabled vehicles.

The accident is under investigation and the Expressway was closed for over an hour.
