Fort Wayne Woman Dies Of Complications 46 Years After Car Accident

Fort Wayne resident Beverly Meyers has been listed as the eleventh person to die in a traffic accident in 2011 in Allen County, Indiana, but she hasn’t been involved in a car accident since 1965.

Forty-six years ago, Meyers was seriously injured in a two-car accident at the intersection of Indiana 101 and Indiana 37 in Grabill. The year was 1965 and Meyers was just 18 years old. The car Meyers was in ran a stop sign and struck another vehicle, injuring six people and killing one. Meyers was in a coma for a month following the accident and was never able to care for herself again after the crash. Paralyzed and severely disabled, Meyers spent the next four decades in nursing homes and rehabilitation centers around Indiana. This past week, she died from an infection that was a complication from her original injury.

While we read about serious car accidents in the news each day in Indiana, it is sometimes hard to remember that the injury victims that we learn about don’t all get better in the weeks, months, and years after the crash. Some will struggle with disabilities and scarring, and some will require full-time nursing care. Some will survive the crash, but eventually succumb to complications after decades of suffering. Beverly Meyers reminds us of these injury victims.

If you or a loved one have been seriously injured in an Indiana car accident that was not your fault, it is vital that you receive compensation for your injuries and ongoing financial support for your future medical needs. Speak with a South Ben injury attorney today.
