Greencastle Boy Receive Head Injury In Park Parking Lot Car Accident

A six-year-old Indiana boy was retrieving a ball in a parking lot near a park when he was struck and seriously injured by a car that did not see him dash out from between vehicles.

The pedestrian accident took place at the Big Walnut Sports Park, which has a serious of soccer goals for public use. The park is owned by the Big Walnut Sports Park Association and used by the Putnam County Youth Soccer Association. There are no barriers between the fields and the nearby parking lot, although that is a common occurrence on playing fields across the nation. However, parents have erected a temporary fence at the park and the park association’s present released a statement saying that, “they can do better.”  

They boy, Elijah Hardwick, was airlifted from the accident scene to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. When he arrived, he was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury and listed in critical condition. He is now in stable condition and in an induced coma.
