Illegal street racing and its casualties reach alarming levels

Illegal street racing has risen to alarming levels.  More to the point, as one official plainly stated, "Illegal street racing has reached ridiculous levels."

The result has led to an increasing number of senseless deaths, and the participants are not the only casualties.  A large number of illegal street races that involve wrongful deaths will also likely include an innocent bystander, whether it be a jogger, a fellow motorist, a bicyclist, or a pedestrian, etc.Auto injuries

At present there are no official databases that track street racing deaths, but a simple Google search for the term "street racing deaths" reveals an unfortunate truth behind this emerging epidemic.  Because these types of acts are often prosecuted as reckless driving or speeding statutes, it makes the official tracking of illegal street racing very difficult.

A recent press release reported a Florida Highway Patrol Trooper stating, "The last four years it's been out of control." She went on to further report that in the 10 days ending January 1 of 2008, four people in her jurisdiction died, including a teen bicyclist just riding alongside the road.

Whether or not offical numbers are ever recorded, the fact remains that illegal street racing is careless, dangerous, and can lead to deadly consequences and destroyed lives.
