Fuel costs and a slumping economy continue to play a major factor in the decision making of travelers. According to AAA, 28.6% of the population will travel along American highways during the Labor Day holiday. This number represents a decrease of 1.1% from last year's total. The airline industry will suffer a much greater loss, as their numbers are expected to be down 4.5%. And public transportation should see a sharp increase as more people decide to travel by train or bus this year.
Keep in mind, Labor Day travel may be in decline compared to last year's numbers, but holiday travel still accounts for the busiest time on our roadway. As a result, personal injury and auto accidents usually increase sharply during this time.
Whether you are taking a bus, driving a recreational vehicle, or simply biking for exercise, keep a watchful out for the increase in traffic during the holiday weekend, and enjoy your vacation!
