Man killed after hit-and-runs

IMPD responded to an incident involving a disabled man who was struck twice in separate incidents involving hit and run drivers.

Billy Whyde, 44, was pronounced dead after he was attempting to cross the intersection of Madison and Nelson Avenues in a motorized wheelchair.

Mr. Whyde was initially struck by a green minivan. Onlookers to the incident tried reviving the victim, but soon decided to find a phone so that they could dial 911. As they attempted to contact police, Mr. Whyde was struck again by a silver sedan. The second driver also failed to stop.

The family of the victim is strongly urging anyone to come forward with information regarding this tragic incident.

Indiana law requires all parties involved in an an accident to immediately stop their vehicles as close to the accident scene as possible without posing additional risk to themselves or others. Failure to do so may result in stiff legal reprecussions.
