Michigan Van Crash Caused By Weather And Speed

Michigan State Police say that speeding and poor weather conditions were the reason for a 13-passenger van accident that took place on Saturday evening in Mecosta County.

According to local news sources, the one-vehicle accident took place just after eight at night on the southbound lanes of US 131 near Eight Mile. The 51-year-old driver of the van, who is a resident of Indiana, lost control of the van, which struck a guardrail and flipped onto its side. Of the 13 people in the van, six were seriously injured and transported to local hospitals in Big Rapids. None of the injuries were described as life threatening.

It is not clear where the van filled with people was traveling or if the driver will be cited for his involvement in the van accident.

Authorities reminded the public that vehicles should drive under the posted speed limit when weather conditions are poor, and that you can be ticketed for speeding even if you are driving the speed limit if road conditions are bad.
