It’s a new year, which means that millions of Americans are making resolutions about their health, their careers, and their families. But isn’t it time that you made a few resolutions that made it less likely that you are involved in or injured in a serious car accident? Here are a few suggests:
Putting on your seat belt only takes a few seconds, and yet it is the number one action you can take to prevent serious injury in a car accident. No more excuses about it being uncomfortable or inconvenient or uncool – buckle up every time you get in a car in 2011 for you and your loved ones.
Car Safety Resolution #2: Get your car a regular checkup.
Did you know that a significant number of car accidents could have been prevented by regular car maintenance? Worn-out tires, bad brakes, low fluids, and other car maintenance problems can lead to loss of control, tire blow-outs, and even car fires. In 2011, make sure you take your car in to be tuned up and checked out.
Car Safety Resolution #3: Say goodbye to tailgating.
New Years is a great time to rid your life of bad habits, and when it comes to driving, there may not be a worse habit than tailgating. Not only is tailgating illegal, it is also the cause of the majority of rear-end accidents – not to mention that tailgating doesn’t have any benefits as it won’t get you where you are going any faster. This year, make sure to keep a reasonable amount of distance between you and the car in front of you. Give vehicles even more room if you are traveling at high speeds or if weather conditions are bad.
