Common Ways Truck Accidents Can Occur

Commercial Trucks are considerable dangers on Indiana's interstates, highways, and two-lane roads. Their bulk and weight make them especially dangerous for passenger cars, and truck accidents are much more likely to result in serious personal injury as well as fatalities.

However, in many cases, cars do not know how to safely share the road with trucks. Driving a car while not understanding the limits of trucks can be just as dangerous as a truck driver who has not gotten enough sleep or a truck that has not passed safety regulations.

What are some ways that cars and motorcycles can lead to a car and truck accident?

· Being unaware of truck's
blind spots. Due to a truck's size and length, they have much larger blind spots than compact vehicles. Driving directly behind a truck or diagonally beside a truck can make your car completely invisible to the driver - and land you in a bad accident. To prevent this, be sure to stay out of the truck's "no-zone."

· Forcing a truck to maneuver quickly or brake quickly - by turning in front of them or changing lanes in front of them abruptly. Trucks weigh considerably more than cars and have a much harder time slowing down or stopping. Don't assume that trucks can react like cars - it could land you in a serious accident. Give trucks as much space as you can.

· Traveling on the right side of a truck making a right-hand turn. Trucks make very wide right-hand turns, and collisions are common when cars are unaware of this on the right side of a truck. These mistakes result in the car smashing into the truck's passenger side door.

· Being unaware of
truck turbulence. Trucks are large enough to create turbulence that you may feel while passing a truck. Some drivers do not know to correct for this sudden blast, while others overreact and turn their vehicles into the truck.
