1 Fatality, 2 injured in crash on US-23

MILAN TOWNSHIP - Patricia K. Leatherman, 63, of Sarasota was pronounced dead at the scene and two others are hospitalized in serious condition after a three-car crash Saturday, November 1, 2008, on US-23 near Milan.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said was traveling just north of Plank Rd. in her white 2005 Ford Escort when, for unknown reasons, Leatherman lost control of her vehicle and it crossed the median and struck an oncoming pickup truck, which then was rear-ended by a third car.

Shequita M. Helal, 25, of Grand Blanc, the driver of the black 2008 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, was taken by ambulance to the University of Michigan Hospital, Ann Arbor, where she was listed in serious condition.

Marietta Ruggirello, 47, of Linden, a passenger in a black 2007 Nissan Altima that rear-ended the truck, also was listed in serious condition at the University of Michigan Hospital.

The driver of the Nissan, Joseph C. Ruggirello, 45, of Linden, was uninjured and released at the scene.
