Posted on Apr 12, 2009

According to the Chicago Tribune, a 12-year-old boy from near Schererville, Indiana, was killed in an industrial accident at Upright Iron Works, Inc., a family business based in Griffith, IN. The accident occurred on Thursday, March 25.

They Crown Point boy who lived on Autumn lane, Nathan Lundin, was pronounced dead at The Community Hospital in Munster, Indiana just before 3 p.m. on Thursday after a steel object fell off of a moving forklift and onto the boy pinning him. The Lake County Coroner's Office confirmed that the boy died from blunt force trauma to the head and body.

Although police confirmed that the death was an accident, they did not release details outlining why the boy was at the iron works or how the accident took place. It appears that the boy's family owns the company.

Upright Ironworks is located at 1036 Reder Road in Griffith, Indiana.

There is an ongoing investigation of this accident headed by the Lake County Coroner's Office, the Griffith Police Department, and the Indiana Occupational Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
