2 Killed In Weather-Related Crash

An Alexandria couple died in a one-car accident along State Road 28 Tuesday morning, January 6, 2009, that was likely caused by slippery road conditions.

Flora B. Rushin, 76, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband, Dewey H. Rushin, 83, died later in the afternoon after being transported to Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis. Neither person was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The couple had been traveling east on State Road 28 near County Road 830 East when their truck left the road, struck a ditch and began to roll. The vehicle struck a telephone pole, splitting it in half, before coming to rest on its top.

Both people were ejected from the truck. The impact of the crash killed Flora Rushin immediately.

A small white dog was also traveling with the couple at the time. The animal was reportedly scheduled to undergo a procedure to fix its eyes. The animal was in stable condition as of Tuesday afternoon.
