2 Women injured in crash in Fox Park

LA PORTE - A car accident on Saturday, April 11, 2009, put two La Porte women in the hospital.

Sheena Cox, 24, was transported to La Porte Hospital after the car she was driving hit a tree off of Truesdell Avenue in the area of Fox Park.

The car's passenger, Toni Johnson, was taken by helicopter to Memorial Hospital of South Bend.

Police found the vehicle against a tree about 30 feet south of the roadway, and about 800 feet east of Hoelocker Drive, with both women trapped inside and unable to free their legs from under the dashboard, according to the report.

Both women were conscious, and Johnson complained of chest pain and said she couldn't feel or move her legs. There was also blood on her hands, according to police.

The women were freed from the vehicle by La Porte Fire Department firefighters.

La Porte Hospital released that Cox suffered a C2 spine injury, neck fracture and multiple leg fractures. Her blood work came back negative for alcohol.
