Posted on Dec 12, 2008

Three people were injured, two critically, in a head-on collision Sunday night, December 7, 2008, on State Road 135 North near Nashville.

Robert W. Thompson, 55, of Morgantown, and his wife, Gloria, each were taken by separate helicopter ambulances to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment of their injuries. As of Monday afternoon, both victims were listed as critical, according to the Indiana State Police.

The accident occurred about two miles north of Nashville in the area known as the dove cut, the site of several fatal and otherwise serious crashes over the past few years.

Justin M. Griffith, 28, was southbound in a 2001 Ford pickup truck lost control of his vehicle and crossed the centerline stricking the Thompson's 1998 Ford Taurus head-on.

All three victims were trapped in their vehicles and had to be extricated. Rescue personnel were on the scene within minutes and immediately requested that Lifeline Air Ambulance start for the county.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Thompson were airlifted by Lifeline Air Ambulance to Indianapolis.

Mr. Griffith, who is a firefighter with Hamblen Township Volunteer Fire Department, was transported by ambulance to CRH, where he was treated and released.
