Byron man airlifted to hospital after serious rollover accident

Posted on Oct 30, 2008

Argentine Twp. — A 28-year-old Byron man riding as a passenger in a 2001 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck, was seriously injured Sunday morning, October 12, 2008, when it rolled over.

The driver of the truck, a 37-year-old Argentine Township woman, was also injured. Charges are pending upon completion of the investigation.

Argentine Township Police Chief Daniel Allen said the police and fire departments responded to a report of a serious injury accident on Silver Lake Road, between Murray and Duffield roads at 10:35 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 12.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the pickup truck, driven by the 37-year-old Argentine Township woman, was eastbound on Silver Lake Road at a high rate of speed. Allen said the truck’s speed might have been in excess of 70 miles per hour. The driver lost control just east of the curve near Duffield Road leaving the roadway and striking a tree.

After striking the tree, the truck rolled over, coming to rest on its roof.

The female driver was transported to Genesys Health Park in Grand Blanc Township and was listed in serious condition. The male passenger was entrapped in the vehicle and rescue personnel used the Jaws of Life to extract him from the wreckage. He was airlifted to Hurley Medical Center in Flint, where he was later listed in serious condition.

The police chief said alcohol was a factor in the crash and charges are pending the results of the investigation. The Fatal Alcohol Crash Team (FACT) was requested to assist with the investigation.
