Car Crash Injures 5 and Condemns a House

Posted on Jan 05, 2009

A crash Sunday night in western Allen County injured five people and sent a car spinning into a house, trapping three people inside.

A 1993 Chevrolet Lumina driven by Crystal S. Chaney, 28, of Columbia City, ran a stop sign at Washington Center Road as she was northbound on Butt Road, near the Allen-Whitley county line and was struck by a 2008 Buick Enclave driven by Doyle W. Kincaid, 52, of Columbia City.

The collision caused the Lumina to spin off the road crashing into a corner of a house located at 5909 Butt Road.

All three passengers were trapped in the Lumina and had to be cut out by Arcola Fire Department rescue crews.

Two passengers, Jasmine R. Schwartz, 19, of Columbia City, and Cody Schwartz, 20, of Larwill, were airlifted to the hospital. Schwartz was transported in serious condition.

Kincaid and his wife, Kristy J. Kincaid, 49, of Columbia City, suffered minor injuries.

The house was condemned because of structural damage it sustained in the crash.

Chaney was cited for disregarding a stop sign, driving on a suspended license and false registration.
