Chicago’s Scotland Yard Gospel Choir Injured In Indiana Van Crash

Posted on Oct 15, 2009

Bloodshot Records indie rock band Scotland Yard Gospel Choir was involved in a serious van accident on Thursday afternoon while driving in Indiana on Interstate 65. All six members of the Chicago-based band were seriously injured in the Indiana band accident while one band member is listed in critical condition.

The band, who was beginning a tour to promote their new album, "...And the Horse You Rode In On," all received some degree of head injury after their van blew a tire, lost control, and flipped several times. The vehicle landed upside down off of I-65.

Indiana State Police told reporters that Mark Yoshizumi was airlifted to Advocate Christ Hospital Medical Center in Oak Lawn with major internal injuries and major head trauma. Alison Hinderliter, 42, Ethan Adelsman, 32, Elia Einhorn, 29, and Mary Ralph, 28, were all rushed to Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer, IN, with head injuries, broken bones, and other non-life threatening injuries.

Driver Eliezer Santana Jr., 32, received a concussion and minor injuries. Yoshizumi remains in serious condition while the other band members have been released from the hospital. Ralph, who suffered a broken pelvis and collarbone, will be moved to a Chicago hospital.

Indiana Police say the van flipped five to eight times before coming to a rest - it is not known whether the band members were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. The van was destroyed in the accident along with the ban's equipment.
