An Indiana traffic accident that injured one and involved five vehicles took place on Interstate 70 in a construction zone this week. Indiana State Police believe that the car wreck was caused by a vehicle no reducing its speed as it entered the road work zone.
According to the Brazil Times, a charter bus entering the road construction zone did not properly slow down with traffic, rear-ending a tractor trailer ahead of it and causing a chain reaction crash involving two other cars and one other truck. One car that was damaged in the crash fled from the scene of the accident. The bus driver, 53-year-old Eric Austin, an employee of Luxury Line Charter Tours Inc., was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Neither of the truck drivers and no one else on the bus was seriously injured. A few bus passengers received minor bumps and bruises but refused treatment at the scene.
The construction zone accident is under investigation. The driver of the charter bus was cited for failing to reduce his speed and failing to avoid a crash.
The chain-reaction crash took place near Terre Haute at the mile marker four of I-70. The road was closed for over two hours after the accident took place.
