Crash kills Two in Heath Township

Mikita Jones, 20, of Holland and a Tyler Maten, 19, of Hamilton were killed in a crash Saturday, January 17, 2009, on M-40 near 127th Avenue.

Maten was driving the vehicle in which Jones was a front-seat passenger. Another passenger, Kraisock Jesse Bun, 19, of Holland, was treated and released. Also involved was a pickup truck driven by Deborah Lynn Brooks, 49, of Allegan, who was treated and released. Her passenger, Ruel Calvin Brooks, 49, of Allegan, refused treatment for minor injuries.

The sheriff department said the cause of the crash appears to have been Maten driving at excessive speed for the weather conditions. The road was snow covered at the time of the crash.

The crash is still under investigation.
