Fatal crash on M-55 claims life of 44-year-old Evart woman

Posted on Oct 30, 2008

LAKE CITY - A 44-year-old Evart woman was pronounced dead at the scene and two others were severely injured as a result of a two vehicle crash on Thursday, October 23, 2008, at M-55 west of LaChance Road in Lake Township of Missaukee County.

Missaukee County Sheriff Jim Bosscher said it appears that a vehicle driven by the Evart woman was headed eastbound and was struck after a vehicle headed westbound driven by a 51-year-old Howard City man crossed the center line.

In addition to the Evart woman, the 64-year-old mother of the woman also was in the eastbound vehicle. The Reed City woman was transported by Missaukee EMS to Cadillac Mercy Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash. The Howard City man was airlifted by North Flight Helicopter to Munson Hospital in Traverse City.

The investigation is ongoing and names of all the persons involved are being held until notification of family. M-55 was closed for approximately 2 1/2 hours and traffic was detoured onto Old M-55.

Seat belts were believed to have be worn and it is unknown at this time whether alcohol was a factor. The jaws of life were used on both vehicles to extract their occupants.
