Fiery Crash In Indiana Leaves One Man Dead

Posted on May 18, 2011

One man is dead and another remains at the hospital in critical condition after a fiery car accident on a two-lane highway in Indiana County.

According to the Tribune-Democrat, the fatal car accident took place on Thursday, May 5, on State Route 286 outside of Homer City, Indiana, when the driver of an SUV failed to stay in his lane while negotiating a curve. As he rounded the curve, it was met with a GMC pickup truck, resulting in a head-on collision. The driver of the pickup truck was trapped inside his vehicle when the truck caught on fire and was quickly engulfed.

The driver of the pickup truck, 55 year-old Cyold Alan Ribblet Jr. of Center Township, was killed in the car accident and subsequent fire. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. A coroner reported that the man probably died in the crash and not the fire. His cause of death has been listed as blunt force trauma.

The driver of the SUV that police believe caused the Indiana car accident, 20-year-old Michael Doucette was flown by helicopter to a nearby hospital. Investigators are processing evidence that will reveal whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. Indiana State Police will continue to investigate the car accident.
