Fort Wayne Good Samaritan struck by SUV at crash site

Dale Kizer, 46, of Fort Wayne was hit by a sport utility vehicle as he stood on the side of the road helping a stranger Monday, November 17, 2008, in Noble County. He was listed in serious condition with head injuries Tuesday night at Parkview Hospital. Kizer had stopped to help Ruth Ann Smith, 66, of Kendallville, because her Saturn Vue had been involved in an accident on U.S. 6, east of County Road 500 North. Kizer was hit by a Chevy Tracker driven by Patricia Hammel, 74, of Kendallville.
Smith’s car was also hit by Hammel’s SUV. Smith was transport to Parkview with head injuries and was listed in serious condition on Tuesday night.
Hammel was not injured. Authorities said that icy roads were a factor in the wreck.
