I-65 crash claims life of Franklin man

Greenwood -- One man was killed and another was injured Sunday, March 1, 2009, in an early-morning crash on I-65.

Edward W. Jarman, 47, of Franklin, was killed when his van struck a slow-moving truck driven by Joshua D. Fleener, 28, also of Franklin, on southbound I-65 near mile marker 99 about 4 a.m..

Fleener's Chevrolet Silverado, which had its hazard flashers on, was going about 35 mph to 40 mph because of mechanical problems.

The violent impact of the crash thrust Jarman, who wasn't wearing a seatbelt, into his dashboard and steering wheel. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Johnson County coroner's office.

Fleener was taken by ambulance to Johnson Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Southbound I-65 lanes were closed for two hours during the crash investigation.
