I-65 Crash injures Demotte woman

Cleveland Gardner, 43, of Glenwood, Ill., was driving a double trailer UPS truck on I-65 on January 23, 2009, when he felt his rear trailer begin to fishtail. As he tried to gain control the rear trailer went off the road and hit the guard rail. The semi began to swing around when it crossed over into the left lane, hitting a 2004 Saturn driven by Nenita Miller, 58, of Demotte.

The Saturn then spun off the roadway hitting the guard rail on the outer shoulder, before it crossed back across both lanes of I-65 and hit the guard rail off the inner shoulder.

The UPS semi spun completely around and hit the guard rail off the inner shoulder and the rear trailer then rolled over, splitting open and spilling packages. The UPS rig and front trailer then jack-knifed across both lanes of northbound I-65, blocking it for hours.

Miller, was taken to Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer with complaint of pain to her body.

Gardner was not injured. He was cited for unsafe lane movement
