I-65 crash near Lafayette kills 1 injures another

LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Nicholas A. Kibby, 22, of West Lafayette was killed in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday, April 29, 2009, on I-65 near Lafayette. Kirby died in the crash between the Ind. 26 East and Ind. 38 exits. North lanes of the interstate were closed for more than an hour as officers investigated the crash

Kibby's southbound car crossed the median and ran into northbound traffic, where it collided with a semitrailer truck. The car broke into pieces, and Kibby was ejected.

After striking the car, the semi went through nearby brush and into a field on the right side of the interstate. The semi driver, Melvin Doxy, 43, Alsip, Ill., was taken to Clarian Hospital in Lafayette with back and neck injuries.

A passing motorcyclist was hit by debris from the crash but was not seriously injured
