An early-morning jogger on a path along Lake Michigan in Chicago was brutally attacked by two large male pit bulls on Monday, January 2. The man remains in critical condition while police search for the owner of the two aggressive animals.
According to the Galesburg Register-Mail, the unidentified 62-year-old Chicago resident was jogging on the South Side at around six in the morning when he was attacked by two unneutered male pit bulls. Several nearby residents heard the man screaming for help and took action – one called 911 while another attempted to rescue the man. When police arrived, the dogs turned to attack them and were shot by officers.
The man was rushed to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County where he is being treated for serious bite wounds on his arms, legs, and face.
Chicago police have not yet located the owners of the dogs, though matching collars suggest that they belong to the same person. The owners could face multiple citations and charges related to letting their dogs run loose and owning a dog that causes serious injury to a human. Authorities say they will also look into whether the dogs could have been abused or neglected.
The Illinois dog injury attorneys at Keller & Keller LLP wish the dog attack accident victim a fast and complete recovery.
