Ind. 44 head-on crash claims life of Martinsville teen

MARTINSVILLE, Ind. -- A Martinsville High School student died Thursday from injuries he suffered in a head-on crash in Morgan County on Wednesday, November 12, 2008.

Alexander Boyd, 16, was fatally injured in the crash on Ind. 44 about two miles east of Ind. 37. He was a back-seat passenger in a car driven by Corey Allison, 16, Martinsville. Allison's eastbound car crossed the center line and collided with a car driven by Errika Abrams, 35, Martinsville.

A state trooper came upon the crash just after it happened and put out a fire in Allison's car while the teens were trapped inside, the report stated.

Boyd and Allison were flown to hospitals in Indianapolis. Boyd died at Methodist Hospital. Allison was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital.

Three other teenagers -- Brittany Freed, 16, Veronica Kondelik, 15, and Brandon Wilson, 15, were in Allison's car and were taken to Morgan Hospital and Medical Center in Martinsville, but their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

Abrams also was treated at Morgan Hospital and Medical Center and released.
