An Indiana construction worker was killed while filling in pavement cracks on Interstate 94 in Valparaiso, Indiana, according to Sun-Times Media. Indiana State Police reported that 49-year-old Roger Sadler of Michigan City, Indiana was struck by a red Chevrolet on Friday evening in an IN hit-and-run accident. The fatal worker accident had I-94 closed until 5:30 AM the following morning.
Sadler was rushed to Porter Hospital in Valparaiso and then transferred to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood due to his critical condition. He died of his car accident injuries on Sunday, said the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
Sadler was struck by a drunk driver, 21-year-old Ricardo F. Bustos of East Chicago, Indiana. Bustos continued driving after hitting the construction worker and traveled to his mother’s house while looking out of his side window since his windshield was shattered. His mother called the police when she saw the damage on the car. Bustos was red-eyed and wobbly when police arrived and he had a blood alcohol content of 0.124 hours after the construction worker accident occurred. He admitted that he and a friend had been drinking on Friday and had even been kicked out of a club for intoxication.
Bustos was charged with four counts of felony drunk driving and with leaving the scene of an accident and is being held at Porter County Jail in Valparaiso. The friend and passenger was not charged in the worker accident case.
