Indiana Woman Sues Hospital After Husband Dies After Bypass Surgery

Posted on Sep 30, 2010

A woman from Indiana is suing both a nurse practitioner and a hospital after her husband died two days after undergoing a bypass surgery. According to the medical malpractice lawsuit, the nurse failed to notify the man’s physician after he showed signs of distress and heart problems following the surgery.

The woman, Annette Mogabgab, is suing nurse Jeffrey Stein and The Louisiana Medical Center and Heart Hospital for medical malpractice regarding the five-vessel coronary artery bypass grafting that her husband had in October of 2007. Although the heart operation was initially deemed successful, Stephen Mogabgab was complaining of pain and displaying a need for immediate medical attention two days after the surger was complete. His surviving wife says that the nurse on duty failed to properly monitor his patient, failed to notify the on-duty physician of a problem, failed to diagnose the issue, and failed to follow a doctor’s orders.

The medical malpractice lawsuit generally states that the nurses in charge of her husband’s care did not notice several red flags that should have been obvious to careful health professionals, including a blood pressure issue, dropping heart rate, excessive fluids, and other issues.

In the Indiana medical malpractice lawsuit, Mogabgab is seeking damages for her husband's pain and suffering and her husband’s fear of imminent death. She is also seeking compensation for her grief, mental anguish, suffering, loss of future support, loss of consortium, service society. Finally, she is seeking medical and burial expenses, interest and court costs.
