Indianapolis street racing incident leaves 15-year-old boy dead and 20-year-old man critically injured

Posted on Oct 31, 2008

October 18th 2008--An apparent act of street racing has left a 15-year-old boy dead and a 20-year-old man critically injured.

Shortly after 4 p.m., authorities responded to reports of an accident near the 3900 block of Foltz Road.  Once on the scene, officers were approached by witnesses who stated they saw two cars racing southbound on Foltz Road.  The witnesses further reported that one of the cars crossed the center line in an attempt to pass the other car.  The driver of the passing car, Mark Barron, 20, lost control of his vehicle and collided with an oncoming truck.

Authorities stated that Mr. Barron's speed and loss of control caused him to hit the pickup truck at an angle that was close to head-on. It is further believed by investigators that Mr. Barron and the 15-year-old boy may have been under the influence of marijuana at the time of the accident.

Mr. Barron was taken to Methodist Hospital where last reports listed him in critical condition.  The front-seat passenger, Devon Stone, 15, was trasported to Methodist where he was later pronounced dead shortly before 8 p.m.

The driver and passenger of the pickup truck were treated at St. Francis for minor injuries.

The 17-year-old driver that Mr. Barron was attemtping to pass was cited for his part in the street race.
