Infant and 4 others injured in 2-vehicle collision

FRANKFORT - A 5-month-old, Rhilee Courtney was airlifted to Riley Hospital for Children Sunday night, May 3, 2009, after a two-vehicle crash on I-65 about a half-mile north of Ind. 28 in the northbound lane of I-65.

The infant's mother, Candis Cunningham, 20, of Indianapolis, was driving a gold 2006 Dodge Stratus heading south on I-65. For an unknown reason, Cunningham went off the left side of the interstate through the median and struck a blue 1998 Jaguar driven by Breanne Kemp, 27, Indianapolis, head on.

The infant was airlifted to Riley with a severe head injury while her mom was flown to Methodist Hospital with similar injuries.  The infant later died of her injuries.

Kemp, and her children, Abigale, 6 and Zoe, 8, were taken by ambulance to Clarian Arnett Hospital in Lafayette to be treated for broken bones and bruises.

Krueger said everyone involved in the crash was wearing a seat belt and the infant was secured in a child restraint system.
