La Porte Man OK after being hit by alleged drunk driver

Kevin Euler, 45, of La Porte, was collecting aluminum cans along a road Tuesday, March 17, 2009, when he was hit by a suspected drunk driver injuring his left leg.

Euler said he was standing about 10 feet off the edge of the road in the grass when he was hit by a passing vehicle. He was thrown into some bushes and speculated the passenger side mirror hit him on the left side.

According to police, the driver, 47-year-old Susan Oday told investigators "I had 3, 4 or 5 shots awhile ago.' Recovered from her vehicle were bottles of whiskey and pucker. She was arrested for operating while intoxicated as a Class A misdemeanor.

Euler said he was back home a few hours after being treated at La Porte Hospital. But, he will miss some time at work to recover from his injuries. Euler has been employed as an officer at Westville Correctional Facility for nearly 18 years.
