Man hurt and trapped in vehilce after hit and run crash

Posted on Dec 22, 2008

GARRETT — A Garrett man was injured following a hit-and-run accident late Tuesday morning.

Mark D. Krider, 47, was trapped inside his 1999 Chevy S-10 due to injuries and damage to the driver’s side door at 11:24 a.m., Tuesday morning, December 16, 2008.

Krider told police he entered the intersection of Randolph and Railroad streets just north of the underpass. A white, S-10 Blazer reportedly failed to stop at the stop sign and continued east into the intersection, striking Krider’s vehicle. The impact pushed Krider’s vehicle onto the front yard of a home in the 400 Block of North Randolph Street.

Emergency personnel had to use extrication tools to release the driver’s door on Krider’s vehicle.

The fleeing vehicle was located a short time later in a parking lot on the west side of Auburn.

The driver of the vehicle, Kevin M. Rowe, 24, of the 900 block of Griswold Ct., Auburn was arrested by Garrett Police at 11:47 a.m. Tuesday and charged with operating while intoxicated, a Class A misdemeanor; operating while intoxicated with an unlawful alcohol concentration, a Class A misdemeanor; and leaving the scene of a property damage accident, a Class A misdemeanor. He was released at 7:25 p.m. on $2,000 bond, according to jail reports.

Krider complained of back pain following the collision and was transported from the scene by DeKalb EMS for treatment.

Police estimated damage between $10,001 and $25,000.
