Michigan Dog Returned To Home One Year After New Mexico Car Accident

Posted on Aug 24, 2011

Over a year ago, a Michigan family was involved in a fatal New Mexico car crash that changed their lives forever. Today, the surviving members of the accident will be reunited with their dog, who disappeared at the scene of the collision.

Last August, Gary Benson, wife Monica Benson, their five children, and their dog Ceasar were all traveling in Quay County, New Mexico, when their minivan rolled over, killing Gary as well as one of the children, Emily. In the aftermath of the accident, as the family was getting medical attention and trying to pick up the pieces of their lives, their dog was forgotten. When Monica returned to the scene of the accident to look for the beloved pet, he was nowhere to be found.

Fourteen months later, a rescue group found a dog resembling Ceasar, who had been staying with a family in New Mexico. When they scanned the dog for a micro chip, they found one with Monica’s name – but an old address and phone number. Luckily, the animal shelter did a little research and realized that the dog belonged to the Benson family.

Monica Benson believes that the dog’s return is a signal from her husband and daughter that they are okay and want her and her family to be content to move on.
