Motorcycle Accident claims Huntington Woman, Husband Hospitalized

Posted on Nov 10, 2008

VAN BUREN - A motorcycle collided with a sport utility vehicle Sunday morning, November 9, 2008, near Van Buren, claiming the life of Huntington woman, Katerine Lynn Garrison, 47, and hospitalizing her husband, Donald W. Garrison, 49, also of Huntington, according to the Grant County Sheriff's Department.

Mrs. Garrison died instantly from blunt force trauma after being thrown from the motorcycle and striking a road sign. She was a passenger on a 1986 Honda Gold Wing motorcycle driven by her husband on N. Ind. 5.

Mr. Garrison's was in Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, where he had been flown from the scene. He suffered leg and other injuries when he was thrown into a ditch in the accident.

The couple were both wearing helmets.

According to police, Lynn N. Herzog, 34, Warsaw, was backing her 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer out of a private driveway at 6581 N. Ind. 5 when she backed into the path of the motorcycle. The motorcycle struck the right rear corner of the Trailblazer before sliding southeast off the road and into a ditch.

Herzog wasn't injured and was wearing her seat belt. She was cited for failure to yield the right of way. Police said they don't believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
