Motorcycle Accidents Plague Indiana In June, Leaving Multiple Riders Dead

Posted on Jun 29, 2009

This June has been a deadly one for motorcycle riders in Indiana. In Fort Wayne, three riders were speeding eastbound down Maumee Street when all three bikers failed to negotiate a curve and hit a curb. Thee bikers and their three passengers were all ejected from the bikes, leaving two dead and three in serious condition. The Fort Wayne Allen County F.A.C.T. Team is investigating the deadly motorcycle accident, in which none of the riders were wearing seatbelts.

In Elkhart County, two motorcycle riders collided with each other on Saturday night within yards of the US 6 and Country Road intersection. Both motorcycle victims were injured and taken to two different hospitals.

In West Wheatfield Township, four different vehicles were involved in a crash on State Route 22 on Tuesday. Indiana State Police reported that Diane Clawson fell asleep at the wheel, hitting three other vehicles when she crossed into a different lane.

Finally, in South Bend early on Saturday morning, a motorcycle rider was killed after striking a deer on Indiana Toll Road in LaPorte County. Indiana State Police reported that 51-year-old Paul R. Stumar was riding his 1985 Harley Davidson westbound when the three deer ran in front of his vehicle. Another man on a different motorcycle riding with Stumar, Steven Reimondo, was also injured in the animal crossing. The road's westbound lanes were closed for two hours following the motorcycle accident. Stumar was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
