New Year's Day wreckcaused by stuck Boot on accelerator pedal

Posted on Jan 05, 2009

An accident in Linton on New Year's Day 2009 was caused by a woman who got a boot stuck on the accelerator pedal preventing her from stopping her vehicle before it crashed into an oncoming truck.

The accident occurred when Sarah J. Corn, 59, Linton, was driving a 2006 Toyota Corolla four-door passenger car on State Road 54 and was turning south onto NE 10th St.

Corn told Officer Heath Murray that she bent over to pick something up and her boot got caught on the accelerator. The car pulled into another lane of travel and into the path of an oncoming truck driven by Steven W. White, 42, of Sullivan. White was driving a green 1998 Chevrolet Silverado pickup. His vehicle received damage all across the front end and had to be towed from the scene.

The Greene County Ambulance Service responded to the scene. White was reported to be slightly in pain but he refused treatment on the scene and advised that he had recently had lower back surgery.

The physical status of both drivers appeared to be normal. Total damage was estimated at $2,500-5,000.
