Off-duty Barry County Sheriff's officer killed in motorcycle accident

October 17th 2008--State police responded to an accident that resulted in the death of an off-duty Barry County sheriff's deputy. Christopher Yonkers, 43, of Hastings was killed when a vehicle failed to yield the right of way to his motorcycle on M-43.
The 24-year-old driver of the automobile was wearing his seatbelt and reportedly unhurt in the crash. State police released the unidentified driver pending further investigation.
Mr. Yonkers was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Yonkers was a 12-year veteran of the Barry County Sheriff's department.
It wasn't immediately clear if the vehicle driver did not see Yonkers or if he believed he had clearance to make the turn.
The investigation remains ongoing at present.
