Officer Aaron Johnson, a Fort Wayne police officer was taken to a hospital in fair condition after he and three other people were injured in a crash on the city’s southeast side Thursday. Officer Johnson was responding to a call to assist other officers at the time of the crash. He was driving north on South Anthony Boulevard shortly before 9 a.m. when his police car crashed into a civilian vehicle that was westbound on East Pontiac Street, Fort Wayne police said.
Johnson’s lights and siren were operating when the vehicles collided. All other vehicles in the intersection yielded to Johnson’s vehicle, police spokesman Roy Sutphin said.
"He practiced due regard at the intersection," Sutphin said of Johnson.
All three occupants in the civilian vehicle were injured. A 38-year-old woman was riding in the back seat of the car and was taken to a hospital in fair condition. The 19-year-old man driving the vehicle and an 18-year-old woman in the front seat both received minor injuries. Police did not release their names.
Johnson suffered injuries to his arm.
