One Seriously Injured In Sellersburg School Bus Accident

Posted on Dec 24, 2009

School buses carry our most precious cargo, but unfortunately, there are hundreds of school bus accidents each year across the United States. In many cases, school bus accidents are caused when another driver on the road does not know the rules of the road pertaining to school buses or are not alert of a stopping school bus. This was certainly the case in Sellersburg, Indiana, On December 16, when a serious school bus accident led to the serious injury of one driver. The accident occurred at 7 am, just as buses were picking up children for their day at school.

The Clark County Sheriff reported that a bus was stopped to pick up children on State Route 60 in Clark County with a car stopped behind it. With both vehicles stopped, a third car ran full speed into the car, which in turn was wedged beneath the bus. While no one on the school bus was injured, and only six children were aboard the bus at the time of the accident, one woman was trapped in the car wedged beneath the bus with serious injuries. After emergency responders were able to lift the bus off of the car, the woman was airlifted to University Hospital where she remains in critical condition.

The school bus accident remains under investigation by Clark County officials. The children were all examined by medical professionals and their caregivers were contacted. The bus was in working order at the time of the bus accident.
