Spencer woman killed on Ind. 46

Alice B. Collier, 54, of Spencer died in a three-vehicle crash Thursday, April 16, 2009, in Owen County on Ind. 46 near the Monroe County line.

John F. Abrell, 56, of Terre Haute, was driving west on Ind. 46 when his pickup truck struck the rear of a 2000 Mazda that was waiting to turn left. Collier was a passenger in the Mazda.

The collision pushed the Mazda into oncoming traffic, and it was struck head-on by an eastbound sport utility vehicle driven by Jeremy Sherfield, 29, also of Spencer.

The Mazda was driven by Tonia Lee, 40, Spencer. She was treated at a Bloomington hospital.

Abrell was cited for driving too fast to avoid a collision and following too closely.
