As wrongful death lawsuits, personal injury lawsuits, and premises liability lawsuits are being filed against the state of Indiana and the stage riggers in the Indiana State Fair stage collapse tragedy, many victims of the accident are also naming the country band Sugarland in their claims.
This summer, the country duo was about to take the stage in front of thousands of fans when a severe storm blew into the area and strong winds blew over the stage. Seven people were killed in the accident while dozens were seriously injured. Forty-four of the lawsuits that followed, including four wrongful death lawsuits, name Sugarland as a negligent party.
According to the Indiana injury attorney in one of the lawsuits, Sugarland had the final say in whether or not to cancel the concert that night when the wind picked up and that the country music performers did not show appropriate care or concern when they decided to move forward with the performance. One plaintiff’s attorney said that the musical act could have prevented the tragedy.
Sugarland canceled their performance at the Iowa State Fair in the days after the accident and held a benefit concert for the victims of the stage collapse in October.
