Teens Killed in One-car Crash

A one-car crash on N.M. 28 near Las Cruces around 3 a.m. Sunday, January 4, 2009, killed 18-year-old Johnny Marmolejo of Vado and 14-year-old Lucero Ramirez of Mesquite, who was five months pregnant.

According to police, Marmolejo was driving faster than 100 mph when the car left the highway and smashed into two pecan trees.

It is unknown whether alcohol was a factor in the crash, and police are awaiting the results of a toxicology examination by the state Office of the Medical Investigator.
