Towed trailer unhitches; 3 injured

In a heavy downpour of rain on May 13, 2009, Maurice D. Riffel, 38, of North Vernon, Indiana was driving his 1991 Chevy 1500 Pick Up towing a trailer southbound on SR 7 N in Jennings County, Indiana, when the trailer started moving back and forth and traveling left of center striking a 2004 Buick LeSabre driven by Nancy C. Fodrea, 71, of Elizabethtown, who was traveling north on SR 7 N. The trailer detached from the truck upon impact, continued to rotate and hit the front end of the pick up and the left side of the Buick. This caused the Fodrea vehicle to spin off the roadway to the right into a ditch line. The trailer continued to rotate clockwise and separated from the pick up coming to a rest off the roadway. The trailer had became detached from the truck ripping off the bumper continuing south and left of center. The truck went off the road and down an embankment.
