Trained Fighter Pit Bulls Attack Two In Saginaw County

Posted on Apr 01, 2009

The Saginaw News reports that a Michigan man and woman were viciously attacked by three pit bulls in their Buena Vista Township neighborhood. Bridgetta Hadley was blindsided by three aggressive pit bulls on her way to work on March 5 - suffering multiple bite wounds and injuries that resulted in dozens of stitches and nerve damage.

When her neighbor, Duane VanLamHam, stopped to help the dog attack victim, he too was dragged down and mauled by the attack dogs. His leg wounds would require four surgeries over a number of days and an extended hospital stay.

"The dogs pulled his pants down and pulled his shoes off and bit him on his legs," Hadley said. "I saw meat chunks out of his legs."

The three aggressive dogs only stopped their attack when a third neighbor scared the vicious animals away with a lead pipe. When police arrived, one of the dogs was shot and killed, while the other two were brought to Saginaw County Animal Care Center, where they will be quarantined for ten days.

Saginaw County Chief District Judge M. Randall Jurrens has charged the dogs' two owners, Anthony Hunt and Shamorrow Amos, with six count of possessing dangerous animals and causing serious injury. Some in the neighborhood believe that the dogs were trained to fight in pit bull rings.

A conviction for possessing dangerous animals and causing injury could lead to thousands of dollars in fines, hundreds of hours of community service, and up to four years in prison.
