“Transformers” Movie Extra Seriously Injured On Indiana Movie Set

Posted on Sep 20, 2010

An extra working on the set for the new “Transformers 3” movie has been critically injured during a car accident at the filming in Indiana.

The woman, 24-year-old Gabriela Cedillo of Little Village, had a dream of becoming an actress and was excited to work on the newest installment of the blockbuster action movie. She worked at a Chicago bank part-time and had been an extra in movies in the past.

The movie was filming an action scene in Hammond, Indiana, and Cedillo was driving a car as the scene took place. However, when a stunt went wrong and a cable snapped, one end of the cable flew through her windshield and struck her in the head. Her car then plowed into a barrier. Some say that the vehicle that was towing her car during the scene had a tow cable come loose, which then whipped back into the car, striking Cedillo.

Currently, Cedillo is in a medically induced coma at Loyola Medical Center and recovering from brain surgery. Her mother says that she is in stable condition.

Filming for the upcoming movie was cancelled in Chicago the following week. The movie production company has released a statement saying both that their thoughts and prayers are with the woman and her family and that they are looking into the cause of the film set head injury accident. In addition, Indiana workplace safety officials and the Indiana Department of Labor are also looking into the cause of the serious accident.
