Two seriously injured in four-vehicle crash -- Monday, October 20 2008
A four-car collision Monday morning on M-15 east of Cottrell Road in Tuscola Township has claimed the life of a 41-year-old Bay City woman
Heidi Elaine Derks-Rehmann, of Bay City, died at 7:35 a.m. today, at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus Hospital in Grand Rapids, where she was transported from Covenant Hospital in Saginaw from the accident scene, for surgery to repair a severely injured leg.
Deputies report a vehicle traveling west on M-15 driven by 45-year old Lisa Wilmot of Mayville crossed the centerline striking three eastbound vehicles.
The first vehicle struck was driven by 20-year old Daniel Reinbold of Reese. She then hit a car driven by Derks-Rehmann and then a car driven by 21-year old Angeline Zavala of Bay City.
Lisa R. Wilmot was driving the Saturn. The 45-year-old Mayville woman told police she was distracted while putting something into her purse, Jashinske said. The Saturn struck a Pontiac Grand Prix, then a Lincoln, then a Dodge Intrepid, he said.
The crash trapped Heidi Elaine Derks-Rehmann in the Lincoln for more than an hour while Vassar and Millington-Arbela firefighters used cutting tools to free her.
She and Wilmot suffered serious injuries. Jashinske said an ambulance took them to Covenant Medical Center. A hospital spokesman said the medical center had no record of either patient.
The Pontiac driver, Daniel J. Reinbold, 20, of Reese and the Dodge driver, Angeline K. Zavala, 21, of Bay City suffered minor injuries that did not require treatment, Jashinske said. Wilmot was transported to Covenant Cooper with serious injuries. Reinbold and Zavala both received minor injuries and were treated at the scene. Derks-Rehmann was trapped inside her vehicle for nearly an hour. She was then taken to Covenant Cooper for treatment of serious injuries
The crash remains under investigation.
