VA Takes Steps To Ease Disability Application And Benefits Process

Posted on Jul 15, 2010

Acquiring US Veterans disability benefits can be a long, confusing and trying process, especially for those who suffer from injuries, diseases, and conditions that complicate their lives. Luckily, the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Eric Shinseki, is taking steps to reduce the large VA disability benefits backlog and make it easier and faster for veterans to receive the financial support they need.

First and foremost, the Secretary of Veterans Affairs has reduced the amount of paperwork needed to apply for disability benefits, making it easier for workers to examine the applications and easier for disabled veterans to complete. The new forms, which are available on the VA’s website, have been cut more than in half, from 23 pages to just ten pages. In addition, the form has been made more clear and better instructions have been added, making it easier for veterans to correctly complete the forms and receive benefits faster.

The VA Department has also added two new forms in conjunction with its new Fully Developed Claim program, which allows veterans to turn in all necessary paperwork regarding their disability in one fell swoop. Since getting medical records, federal records, VA medication examination results, and other proof of injury or disability is often the most trying and longest part of the disability benefits process, these new forms and the new Fully Developed Claim program should help many veterans outline and submit their case with greater ease.
