Woman dies in US 20 accident

A Trailcreek, Ind., woman died on Friday, February 13, 2009, in a single vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 20 in Westchester Township.

Police identified the victim as Kathy Mendez Borrowdale, 38, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, Borrowdale was the front-seat passenger in a vehicle driven by Timothy Godneck, 33, also of Trailcreek. At approximately 10:14 a.m., police said, Godneck was westbound on U.S. 20, just west of Brummitt Road, when he swerved to avoid a deer in the road and struck a tree on the north side of U.S. 20.

Godneck was treated at a Michigan City hospital for treatment of a hand injury.

Police said that neither Borrowdale nor Godneck is believed to have been wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
